Step 1: Examination and Treatment Planning

Examination and treatment planning consist of a medical history review, comprehensive oral examination, necessary x-rays, diagnostic models and photographs. It is recommended that treatment should begin within three months of the examination as oral conditions continue to change.

Step 2: Placing the Dental Implant

Implant Surgery:

  • Implants are placed in the jaw.
  • Sutures are removed 14 days after the surgery.
  • A soft diet is recommended for the first four weeks.
  • Bone healing and osseointegration occur after a minimum of eight weeks.
  • Temporary crowns or removable prosthesis are optional during the bone healing period.

Step 3: Connecting the Abutment and Impression

  • Implants are checked for osseointegration.
  • X-rays are taken.
  • Impressions are taken to make the final implant supported prosthesis.

Step 4: Restoration Delivered

  • The prosthesis is returned from the dental laboratory and adjusted to normal function.
  • X-rays are taken to confirm the fit.
  • The final crown or bridge is then either cemented or screwed onto the implant.

Follow Up Care:

Oral hygiene maintenance is performed at 3 to 6 month intervals following placement of the final prosthesis. Regular and fastidious oral hygiene maintenance is the key to the long-term success of dental implants.
